Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic is the Mikati Foundation Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences at Columbia University, where she directs the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering. The focus of her research is on engineering human tissues for regenerative medicine, basic research and modeling of disease. She is well published and highly cited, and is one of the 1,360 most cited individuals of all times (h>100). She has 75 licensed, issued and pending patents, has founded three biotech companies – epiBone, Tara Biosystems, and MatriTek, and is a frequent advisor to government and industry. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Medicine, and National Academy of Inventors.
